Currency converter for travellers

See any price in your own currency

Point your camera at a price tag, a menu or a receipt. Convertcy reads the price on screen and converts it straight away — no typing, no mental arithmetic while the queue behind you grows.

Free to download. No account, no sign-up.

Convertcy on an iPhone: USD, EUR, GBP and CHF converted side by side, with the time of the last rate update at the top.

  • On-device recognition
How it works

Three steps, about five seconds

The whole point is to answer one question — is this expensive? — before you have to decide whether to buy.

  1. Pick your currencies

Choose the ones you actually use from a list of more than 140 and drag them into the order you want to read them in.

  2. Point the camera at the price

A price tag in a shop, a line on a restaurant menu, a total on a receipt. The number is recognised on your phone.

  3. Read it in your own money

Every currency on your list updates at once, so you see the price at home and in the country you are standing in.

What it does

Built for the moment you are standing in the shop

  • Scan prices with the camera

Hold the phone over a price and Convertcy recognises the number on the spot and converts it. Recognition happens on the device, so the photos never leave your phone.

First scans free · unlimited with Premium
  • Rates that stay current

The app refreshes exchange rates in the background and always shows the time of the last update at the top of the list, so you know how fresh the number you are reading is.

  • Works without a connection

Roaming off, flight mode, a basement shop with no signal — the last downloaded rates stay on the phone and conversion keeps working.

  • A calculator where you need it

Add up a bill, take the percentage off a discounted price or split a restaurant cheque without leaving the app. The result drops straight back into your currency list.

Questions

Before you install

Is Convertcy free?

Yes. Converting between currencies, the offline mode and the calculator are free and unlimited, and the free version is supported by ads. The camera comes with a limited number of free scans; Premium makes scanning unlimited and removes the ads.

Do my photos go anywhere?

No. Prices are recognised on the phone itself and the images are not uploaded to us. What the app does collect — advertising and analytics identifiers, crash reports — is listed in the Privacy Policy.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. The rates downloaded last time stay on the phone, so conversion keeps working in flight mode or without roaming. The app shows the time of the last update so you can judge how old they are.

Which currencies and languages are supported?

More than 140 currencies. The app itself speaks 10 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish and Ukrainian.

Something is wrong or missing. Who do I tell?

Write to info@convertcy.com. It is a small project, the mail is read by the person who builds it, and bug reports are genuinely useful.

Take it with you on the next trip

Install it before you leave — the rates will already be on the phone when you land.
